Fenton Lio – Apocalypse

The mountainscapes would have you thinking a diet of folk stirrings was on the way but 16-year-old New Yorker Fenton Lio had other thoughts. Namely a brand of noisy but character filled lo-fi rock that against the odds pulls through a certain hybrid of folk, but not so you’d notice so readily early doors. But there is a loveliness to ‘Apocalypse’, a humanity amid all the rough and tumble in them arrangements and that comes from a character leading us down the garden path to better times no matter what that song title would have you believe. Cute as a button, DIY indie (with a dash of the Strokes) at its finest and just the second record from this exciting up and comer. KH
