Sun Mashene – Reverie

With a list of influences that reads like a who’s who of the bands I grew up with Dublin’s Sun Mashene were always going to be on the radar. They have never been adverse to making swells of noise that screech from the heart of the early nineties and ‘Reverie’ sure does sound like a track from an early Ride EP. I had heard an earlier acoustic demo version but this new and improved formula moves the dial considerably and in an upward trajectory. In other words it sounds like the band have kicked the shackles to the kerb and ‘Reverie’ offers an arresting levity that is evident in both the vocals and charging arrangements. Mark Gardener’s involvement is apparent, so we get a proper bolt from the shoegaze blue.. The lads debut album ‘A Place We’ve Never Been’ is out early next year. KH
