The acoustics do find a way to offer up personality so even before the folkiest of singers slowly clambers into our life, all Rob Sexsmith’ed up, it feels as if we are half way to being wooed. Of course it is quiet as can be but there is an imagination firing here and in a manner that feels like we can dig deep into its soul and find layer upon layer of interesting melancholic intent. That we’re treated to an arrangement that blooms through those quiet horns and general percussive growth just adds to the allure of an increasingly confident stroll in a summer meadow. He is a sad boy but somehow he leaves us in a happier place come the end. KH
