Bum Monk – It’s A Tree

So quiet I could barely hear it but ‘It’s A Tree’ had every intention of leaving its mark and it being Bum Monk (yes we’ve heard their other stuff) it was always going to be an odyssey of sorts. You can tell as much by playing that has a grandeur and with it a singer who sounds like they have been waiting for this moment to reveal something not in the least bit inconsequential. Of course it is also dreamy but flourishes that have some Mercury Rev swathes of psychedelic reasoning. Bum Monk are pushing us, but we need that kind of aural oppression to venture into new territory and this feels exactly like that. A slow romp of melodic if not always linear discovery with an ear on what the Polyphonic Spree used to be. KH
