Lily Kelso – Sirens

What I do like about ‘Sirens’ is that it cares not where indie rock has gone before because it has its own sense of destiny, which results in all manner of spiky twists and turns a la Sharon Van Etten because there is every indication that we are dealing with a firebrand here. So Lily Kelso’s (21, California, student learning music) positively jumps out from the speaker, the pulsing percussion is enough on its own to do that but then we also have the effect of her sprawling haunted vocal pallor to throw us a lifebuoy and a signal to the direction of the shore where music is once again arresting. Salvation. KH
