Youth Sector – Benign Fire in a Small Room

A Pixies bass line for sure, joined at the hip by neat Deerhunter riffage and a singer who has warmth of the kind that Interpol never quite evoke. All told Youth Sector have picked their influences well and come back with a track (the title alone deserves praise) that has indie-rock anthem written all over it. In other words ye auld hugger is in his element for a change, the glorious reminiscing from a band who might have a deep well from which to turn out many a fine track in the near future. Heartening stuff from this Brighton quintet, with a nod to Echo & The Bunnymen here and there to keep the fire burning. KH
