Must say I liked the low-slung chords, a hand draped over the guitar and out came that off-kilter calm noise. All in a voice that you won’t forget in a hurry and ‘The Mother in Me’ thus makes for a cocktail that just feels like something more than music, it has a spiritual uplift about it and no amount of swearing is going to knock us on our path to redemption. Bits and pieces of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! here but Say Something in the Morning have enough uniqueness to stand up on their own two feet. Gospel and the blues have a new champion. KH
