Youth Valley – I Don’t Want To Go Out With You, Veronica (feat. Serafim Tsotsonis)

Sure the vocals do have a mopey disposition but that has never put us off hang-dog performances before and anyway how could we not be distracted from all the glum when the jangling soundtrack that surrounds the main performance is so bright and effervescent. Yep Athens’ (Greece) Youth Valley strike right at the heart of 90’s indie glamour here and it reminded me of both the Pale Saints and the Smiths. They do it with such an effortlessness it’s as if the whole piece rolled off their collective tongues without any resistance. For that reason we were lifted skywards and come the chorus given a tour of the clouds just south of the gates of alt heaven. Glorious stuff. KH
