Field Guides – Cicadas in the Lemon Trees

Easy to see why we’ve historically had a soft spot for Field Guides (Benedict Kupstas and others) because they’ve done something here that comes with a depth that goes beyond those National comparisons and into the relam of Tindersticks at their most glacial. Along the way the arrangements pretty it all up so if the vocals ever get anywhere close to overbearing we have the beauty all around to lift the spirits. And ‘Cicadas in the Lemon Trees’ has a lust for life, done subtly but also committed to lifting us free of convention. Tear ducts are meant to empty in such company and I am no exception for this is just pure grandeur. KH
