The sadness is melancholy, the plinking of the piano evoking raindrops but it could well be tears given the sadness that pervades in the heart of this chanteuse. For all the bereft of happiness that is conveyed however there remains a quiet beauty to the performance. A song that bloomed right before our ears, you could be forgiven for thinking that it is purely ambient, but it grows and it grows and this is what marks ‘Listen’ out as something very special. KH
