Off-road chords there and that is what drew me into ‘Hopes & Horoscopes’, spotted that singer Marissa Kephart had something but it wasn’t until the chorus that her gift for melody amid the full throttle of the arrangement (supplied by Scott Yoshimura) all around became clear. Makes for an entirely ebullient kind of indie proposition. elison make it so turned out as to not be obvious whether it came from the 90’s, noughties, 2010’s or the current decade. An anthem for sure, tunesome, noisy, passionate and displaying enough of itself to confirm elison’s dramatic and welcome arrival. KH
