Svavar Knútur has the voice to carry a folk tune of some import that is for sure and ‘November’ gets its winter state of mind correct, reminding us of Glen Campbell’s ‘Wichita Lineman’ on occasion. And that comparison stands up because there is a richness to the arrangements here as exemplified by the strings and the long melodic drawn out vocal sequences. ‘November’ impressed me no end, a proper artist making music that swells from absorbing the environment all around. And then from nowhere the song itself turns on its heels and becomes this indie rock anthem. What a beautiful surprise. KH
