Must say that ‘Violet Bloom’, by Austrian duo Mela, reminded me of ‘Heartbreak City’ by the Cars even if the singer goes much deeper than the pop episodes than that American act ever delved. The first half of the track is a maze of tempo changes and context setting and on a couple of return visits I kept on deciding that it was mostly the instrumental passages where it started to make a whole lot more sense. But then one side here needs the other to offer the contextual light and shade. And the combination had me in a swirl of joy. KH
