The subtlety of this Ontario songwriter took me by surprise here, a song that is forever in a state of foraging to find something new and shiny with which to offer the listener. And that goes for the playing too which is well capable of going off on its own flights of fancy when Matt takes a break. Classic indie operation then and a reminder of another Matthew of the Jay variety (sadly departed). ‘One Like You’ is little ditty that would have fit snugly on our cassette mixtapes back in the day and will do the same in 2021 but somewhere up there in the cloud, as the sun shines through on a tide of its romantic musings.
