Of course there is symmetry with James Murphy’s work but that location shift and a gargantuan uplift in tempo means it is fairly unrecognisable save for the song title. And what a bolt out of the blue these Londoners offer, like ‘Silent Alarm’ era Bloc Party and all the attitude and effervescence that goes with it. Malady are a surprise, they sound vital but in a way that makes it feel as if we have been listening to them for years. As debut single’s go ‘London, I Love You but You’re Bringing Me Down’ is a knockout, let’s hope the industry never shutters their exuberance, vigour and sheer effortless talent. KH
