I just couldn’t shift Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci from my head, the masters of folk, baroque and childhood wonder and you’ll find a bit of each here. In short is the kind of tune to make the heart swell, dreamy vocals and a jangly soundtrack that recalls the Nick Drake songbook but with a certain new century renaissance. Quebec’s Matt Holubowski sings as if he is humming, which is a boon for those of us who can scarcely recall a lyric no matter how many times we’ve listened. ‘Two Paper Moons’ is sweetness bottled and boy are we thirsty for what is contained within.
