Laveda – If Only (You Said No)

So very ambient and somehow this is not the Levada we’d remembered Laveda. He said before this track bloomed before our very ears and issued the trademark dreampop that has us salivating over an array of 90’s memories. It feels psych drenched to a degree and that gives ‘If Only (You Said No)’ a Beach House resonance, a slow build before the clarity becomes its calling card. This is svelte pick and mix, gorgeous cut and paste but only if one was to pick holes in a glorious project of a tune. Jake Brooks and Ali Genevich draw us in before making off with our heart. I let it steep, returned and it felt even better. No longer the pretenders to the Joy Zipper crown, Laveda are now the real deal. KH
