‘Unravelled’ is the type of soulful indie pop that makes us feel good about ourselves. And by that I mean that something this classy is emerging from the underground, pushing the boat out but utterly accessible at the same time. Much of that is down to a singer who has a lightness of being yet she can operate in the realm of a soundtrack full of cinematic swells. There is a sweet undertow too, so much so that it feels so at odds with the look-at-me world. Beguiling stuff from the Manchester singer’s debut album ‘Awaken’. KH
