At first ‘Jewel’ sounds like it was recorded in a back room, but before too long it turns all old school Radiohead and everyone knows that version of the Oxford foursome is the best. Actually Thom Yorke’s brother had a group called the Unbelievable Truth and this could be even more closely aligned to their output. Anyways I’ll stop my withering and loose comparisons and just take in this most combustible of tunes from a trio of Californians who create a rare invocation of 90’s indie that perfectly explodes from the speakers. Grandiose formations like this have to be embraced and isn’t it great to witness a lead singer like William Sconce who is so engrossed he almost goes hoarse midway through. KH
