This is quite the individual type of tune, a singular voice – distraught or distracted it is hard to tell but the effect is oddly affecting. And all taking place from such a simple instrumental base that is more atmosphere than actual progressions. Being Irish (but based in Brooklyn) there is a that heartbroken thing going on here even though the theme is rather a happy one. There are some Nick Drake comparisons, understated but leaving a deep rooted impression. Seamus Fogarty is a modern contemporary, and in this pair Ireland may have at last binned the bland singer-songwriter brand of yore. Here’s hoping. KH
