This is a song with so much character it almost has two personalities, all broody and interesting during those down-times and all fun loving and ecstatic as the clouds part and the momentum grows to a low rolling thunder. And all the while Carly Taich gives an exhibition in how to hold court by twisting a narrative with grace and dexterity. ‘Pity’ is just impossible to resist and there is plenty more joy to be had on ‘Reverie’, the North Carolina artist’s new album.
