This reminds me of Gomez circa their Mercury Music Prize winning ‘Bring It On’. That is due in a large part to the similarity to Ben Ottewell’s vocals but the nu-blues extended by the wider band also create that smokey room atmosphere. But there is more too, the clever promo adds plenty of colour to the vast canvasses created by the bulging bass and the general sense of intrigue and drama. Imaginations will run wild and tummies will tickle sweetly when that chorus finally arrives and then retreats quickly from earshot. Beyond accomplished, this is the sound of a grandiose new act announcing their fabulous wares. KH
