It was a hit for the Association way back in 1967 (half a century ago) and though it has been covered many times over the years I must admit that before now I was oblivious to ‘Never My Love’. So I had two versions to acclimatise to and frankly I love them both. The Association played it slow and harmonious while Knox Hamilton (Little Rock, Arkansas) go all wide-eyed at the possibilities afforded by love. This is a real pick me up, psych pop of the best kind with dreamy glockenspiel and proves a worthy companion to a classic piece of pop. It also proves to be a nice primer for Knox Hamilton’s debut album ‘The Heights’, which is due out next month. KH
