It takes quite a bit to wake us from our temporary hibernation but Unloved are definitely worth it. It was their songs that kept stopping us in our tracks as we wandered on in a fog of sleeplessness. That might be because that is the sort of sound they produce, a vocal in the half-light murmuring sweet nothings and everythings. The vocals in question are supplied by Jade Vincent with Belfast electronic pioneer David Holmes adding the necessary atmosphere. Unloved (haven’t worked out how to pluralise their name!?!) have a debut album of hypnotic power that will slowly envelop your consciousness, whether you are willing to give it up or not. ‘When A Woman Is Around’ is just sensuous, like a Black Box Recorder for a new decade. Bedtime can just wait a little while longer. KD
