If there is one thing that ‘Heaven’ does it is remind us about the reason why we listen to music in the first place, namely a good chorus. And for all that the song gives no indication in its early junctures that Joel Flyger is about to take off the deflector shields and let his vocals soar to the outer atmosphere. ‘Heaven’ proves to be an ingenious introduction to this New Zealand 3-piece who will release their debut album ‘Antipodes’ on Carpark Records towards the end of February. They are on record as saying they make music that is hard-driving and punk-influenced but we’re not hearing it. To our ears this is the best song Delays never wrote, let’s just hope they are in it for a longer haul. KD
