Sometimes justice does prevail and we can afford to drop our oft used ‘they should have been huge’ for a change. Of course Newcastle’s Lanterns On The Lake are not yet huge, but they will be thanks to their signing with one of the UK’s coolest labels, Bella Union (Cashier No. 9, Beach House, Fleet Foxes), and the fact that they deliver a most beautiful brand of delicate pop. To date they’ve self-released 3 EP’s, each one as beguiling as the next and they haven’t gone unnoticed. In fact Lanterns have been one of the most consistent bands to appear on mp3hugger, 4 times in all, the first appearance came back in March of 2008. It is so satisfying to see them make good on all their promise, as evidenced by ‘You’re Almost There’ which is the first peek at their upcoming debut album ‘Gracious Tide, Take Me Home’. Won’t be long now, book a day off work for September 19th. KD

Glad to hear there is an album on the way. Surprised I hadn’t heard more about them since 2008. This is a very nice track, though more of a slow burner than their previous ep tracks, “This Year” or Caught on the Way” which I loved immediately. Can’t wait for the September release.
