As a fellow Clareman I feel a bit embarrassed that I’m only getting around to Vertigo Smyth at this stage. Given that he’s on Limerick label Out On A Limb (an outfit I’ve had a constant ear on owing to the strength of its roster) it makes no sense that our paths have not crossed to date. Anyway, I guess we’re here now and what an introduction ‘the Armada Song’ makes. I had a soft spot for the ukulele as it was but Smyth uses it so purposefully and sweetly I think I may have developed full blown acne (a break out artist?). The song emerged on a split 7-inch with resident OOAL artist Windings (his contribution was ‘Old Like J’ which we featured late last year) in what must surely have been the most prized pieces of vinyl from this country in 2010. Awaiting developments with a renewed eagerness (hear you soon ‘Fox Eyes On Georgia’). KD
