In astroturf footie parlance being labelled a donkey often means the accused is generally last to get picked. Not only that but the offending clodhopper is also likely to be a thorn in the shins of the opposing team. Not that San Diego’s the Donkey’s probably gave it much thought when dreaming up a name for themselves. And a mere cursory listen to their laidback indie jangle dispels any thoughts of awkwardness for these gentlemen have the craft and melodies to soundtrack our summer. We’ve been making lots of trips down California way lately, perhaps it is the advent of summer or maybe there is a mini creative indie explosion going on there. Whatever’s happening the Donkey’s will be leading the way with their upcoming LP ‘Born With Stripes’ the undoubted midfield general. KD
