With her near unpronounceable stage name and invented musical instruments Mica Levi is quite the alternative. And that’s before you even take on board what her latest album ‘Chopped and Screwed’ is all about. The album was recorded live using a technique (chopped and screwed) used in 90’s hip-hop wherein songs are slowed down, speeded up and generally put through the cheese grater. While this appears about as appetizing as shower mold soup we have become quite taken with ‘Everything’. Yes, the prevailing winds are unpredictable, yes Mica pulls shapes our ears are not accustomed to but the piece has an undeniable charm. Somewhat hypnotic in fact as I appear here fresh from 6 repeated plays. Washing machines on their final cycle will never sound the same. I guess quality never goes out of style. KD

Micachu sounds like a Pokemon. This music isn’t particularly cute though.
Post midnight snacking Mogwai perhaps?
