We took up the Candy Claws story (via indiecater) after the introductions had been written and they were a fully functioning dreampop outfit. That was 2009 but just the year previously they’d released an LP made up of just 2 tracks called ‘Two Airships’. Although it differs completely to what was to follow on ‘In The Dream of The Sea Life’ the album was anything less than pure Candy Claws. It’s just that it contained far more guitars (or at least chords that were given prominence in the hazy, dizzy mix of kitchen sink mosaic’s that they so wonderfully montage) and appears a tad more abrasive. For those brought up on their later albums ‘Two Airships’ is a bolt from the blue but an indication that before they made their signature ambient pop their experimentation still shone brightly. The album is available for free from their bandcamp and Peppermill Records. KD
