‘Things We Lost In The Fire’ and certain parts of ‘Christmas’ will probably remain my favourite Low moments but something in new song ‘Try To Sleep’ has completely won me over to their cause again. It seems they have rediscovered that connect that had gone awry on their more recent work. Typically the song starts out like a still frosty morning and thereafter the pacing and atmosphere, while measured, is noteworthy for its warmth. ‘C’mon’, the album the song is taken from, was recorded in an old church in the band’s home town of Duluth and it would appear to be Low’s natural habitat. The experience has revitalised what made them such a special act in the first place. KD
