Mike Dykehouse like so many other of his generation is a rabid MBV enthusiast and his goal it seems is to record something as wondrous as his idols. Well, he’s got that sense of chaotic brilliance down to a T on ‘Signal Crossing’ but its sound owes more to the synth pop agents of the mid-80’s like Fiction Factory than the shoegaze aristocrats that were to arrive years later. Dykehouse is a bedroom project; the montage of noise is built slowly using nothing more than a home PC. So while it may sound like it was honed by several dozen machinations, the beginning, middle and end all stream from one man’s lucid vision. KD
