You’re a Howlies, I’m a Howlies, Everyone’s a Howlies. Yep, Halloween may be over but Atlanta’s finest can’t help reminding us that the werewolves are still amongst us. ‘Smoke’ from their ‘Trippin’ EP may start out like the Strokes but it ends up sounding like the Jesus & Mary Chain were they to have their ears hacked off in a moment of Tarantino inspiration. All very interesting you might say but is it really much cop? Well, I’ve already lost an afternoon trying to pierce the songs’ armour for a weakness and I can tell you now it is quite pointless aiming retro kicks at this masterclass in garage rock. The Howlies are currently unsigned but have struck up a deal with ISP music who will be releasing ‘Trippin’ just before Christmas. Thankfully by then the fanged ones should be hibernating soundly. KD
