My, what a dutiful hybrid of all things early nineties in this song from Swedish band Swoon. Grasping at elements of the sound that was MBV, Ride, Chapterhouse and early Charlatans (principally in the Tim Burgessque vocals) ‘Encore’ will be of keen interest to the descendants of the shoegaze genre. Typically the vocals are wispy and ethereal appearing over the brow of a hill of distorted guitars and wild percussion. ‘Encore’ is taken from the ‘Jetglo’ EP that was released in 2005 after which Swoon seem to have gone to ground. Shame really because efforts like ‘Encore’ are perfectly tailored to the shoegaze audience that has been revitalised of late and could be resurrected completely if the rumours concerning My Bloody Valentine are to be believed.
