Maestro Echoplex – My Eyes Are Disconnected From My Head Is Disconnected From My Body

This is cute, not only in a music sense but also in the story behind the music. Andrew Spencer Goldman released his debut disc as Maestro Echoplex (you might know him as one member of Fulton Lights) in 2001. Expecting little or no interest in the project he was shocked to find out that the EP was voted the 2nd best record of the year by the BBC’s new music team. Cue frantic searches by music fans from all around the world but the records’ limited circulation meant that demand was never going to be sated. To make matters even more complicated Goldman actually attributed the record at the time to the fictitious John Guilt so for many the trail went cold. Fast forward 5 years later to 2006 and a record label called Catbird Records have the good sense to re-release the EP and also see fit to include a taster as a free download (the EP has subsequently appeared on both emusic and itunes). ‘My Eyes Are Disconnected From My Head Is Disconnected From My Body’ may be up there for longest song title ever but it is worth memorising all the words such is the intricate beauty of the sound it headlines. Slightly adrift and awkward it may be but it’s hard not to be touched by the preciousness on show. It’ll quite likely swirl around your head for days and reside in your heart forever. KD
