You might remember ‘Life In A Northern Town’ being ravaged by an uncontrollable dance beat a number of years ago (Dario G, 1997, ‘Sunchyme’). To be fair the priceless constituents were left intact and it did bring some Caribbean flavours to the piece. But, for those who despise being shortchanged then only the original from Northern UK band the Dream Academy will suffice. The song was written as an ode to Nick Drake and became a worldwide hit. Even now it’s hard not to be swayed by the all consuming chorus, in fact the song has aged very well. Despite this being the Dream Academy’s major hit they had a number of other worthwhile tunes in their locker. Check out the entirely misleading yet thoroughly huggable ‘The Love Parade’ and ‘The Edge Forever’ which featured at the close of John Hughes ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’. KD

Love it, love it, love it!
Still absolutely fantastic!
Great tune but I still prefer their version of Please, Please Let me get What I want by The Smiths which was used in Ferris Buellers Day Off as they visited the Art Gallery. I’ll have to put it on my next podcast thingy.
