I have had to sorta be good lately, or else I’d be gone. This is in the main because of a small note I received from the powers that be about posting copyrighted material that I didn’t have permission for. It concerned a big label band and I should have known better. Anyway, said powers were very civil, even pleasant so the whole incident wasn’t that unsavoury. It put me on my guard though, so from now on I’ll only be posting fully legitimated mp3’s (mostly!). Anyway, I snared this Fionn Regan piece from the overwhelming torrent that is SXSW yearly present to blogs (and others who have the time to sift through almost 800 tracks for about a dozen winners). Regan is from Wicklow and his album from last year ‘The End of History’ was a pleasant surprise. Given that we are prone in Ireland to producing a new balladeer with the regularity of an M50 snarl up it is nice to hear one with at least a modicum of talent. The fact that Regan does so with the minimum of backdrop is testament to his songwriting ability. We’re not talking Nick Drake yet but Regan’s star is destined to get much brighter later. KD
