‘It’s Not Like Christmas’ is the new ‘It’s A Cool Cool Christmas’ don’t you know? Well you will come December this year as I plan to plunder this fabulous release for winning festive frivolities. Chief amongst the inspiring yuletide-made-indie numbers is Nottingham’s Swimming’s version of ‘In Dulci Jubilo’. Forget Oldfield this is a serious season of goodwill memory maker. Until then you’ll have to make do with the not insubstantial charms of ‘Albatross CC’, a piece of dramatic post-rocket if such a genre of music chose to exist. The singing is kept to a minimum but in all probability all ears will be trained on the frenetic fretwork. Taken from Swimming’s debut EP and thought provokingly staged at the end of the work ‘Albatross CC’ may take some time to work its magic but when it takes hold you’ll experience non-life threatening heart palpitations as its lavish dexterity courses through your veins. If the drugs don’t work here’s a refreshingly healthy alternative. KD
