I hate dancing (read, I can’t) but if I was of that persuasion then this would be one I’d be trying to roll with. Gui Boratto is from Sao Paulo but he has made a record that has all the hallmarks of European innovation. And innovation is truly what is going here as the 8 minutes plus of ‘Beautiful Life’ provide a bounty of winning ideas. Boratto reveals subtle twists and turns as the tune builds steadily to a restrained climax. Bask in the glory of the sun-drenched vocals, the New Orderesque bass tumbles, the distant ‘Rez’ approximations which are all underpinned by the simplest of drum machine programs. Boratto has hogged the sidelines for almost a decade now but his ‘Chromophobia’ album sees him pushing hard for a place in the first team of dance’s aristocracy. I start dance classes next Monday. KD
