I was going to post on Stellarband during Paddy’s week but held back because I was in a flux about which song of theirs to choose. You see their ‘He Looked One Way, She Looked the Other’ EP is one of those records that needs to be played as a whole before the majesty truly registers. Picking an individual track could likely dilute the joy that this band can create. In the end I plumped for ‘Maps and Things’, a cherisable slice of indie pop that is as fragile as it is beguiling. Stellarband are Brian Durnin, Steve Lynch and Jimmy Wynne and they plunder the same sources as fellow Dubliners the Thrills without resorting to faux americanisms. The band are currently recording their first album titled ‘Player of the Year’. Watch them fly. KD
