With a chanteuse as enchanting and talented as Sarah Cracknell and Andrew Weatherall on production duties it seemed as if Dot Allison and One Dove had the world at their feet. Unfortunately the band would only record one album but Allison has remained steadily on the fringes of public consciousness with her solo career. ‘White Love’ with its cool electronica edges was the high point for One Dove, a song that was ahead of its time, a seemingly prophetic call to what would appear years later on the soundtrack to the ‘The Beach’. The production is lavish, Weatherall instilling a quirky danceability that he had previously conjured on Primal Scream’s seminal ‘Screamadelica’. Allison for her part coos and purrs to ignite a thousand teenage boys imaginations. Amazingly the song has lost none of its sparkle despite its advancing years and remains an expertly crafted piece of transcendent pop. KD

This was on a mix tape that I’m trying to recreate as a CD. Has anyone had success downloading the MP3s of “Why Don’t You Take Me” or “White Love?”
