Sometimes simplicity is the key, for Laurel Music’s ‘No One Wants Forever’ read a thousand other songs. But then after a number of listens the subtleties in the fuselage start to mount a serious impression. Tobias Isaksson probably knows that plucking a mandolin can work wonders if it’s done properly (ask the Spinto Band) and his circular jamboree on ‘No One Wants Forever’ is a compelling partner to dreamily named Malin Dahlberg’s soft utterances. Her vocal inflection is undoubtedly the star of the piece, an elegantly delayed note drenched in a countryesque delivery raises the mundane to something altogether more engaging. Hardly surprising then that Laurel Music are signed to the majestic Labrador label, home to a roster of artists of staggering quality. KD
