Ya i heard about the one concerning ipod were they were palnning that, when you buy and ipod, you can download an infinate amount of mp3s (from the main labels) to your ipod but the mp3s are locked to it (drm). The problem with that is if your ipods breaks or you lose it you lose all your music and it jusnt feel like your own the music anymore, whic for me isnt on because i want to have that feeling of 'i own that album' and at any time anywhere ic an listen to it. I dont like the idea of being restricted on where or how i listen to an album

wasn't there a service earlier this year that was supposed to provide free downloads from the major labels? but then the majors pulled out/claimed they were never a part of it and the whole service completely failed.

with that in mind, i can imagine major labels supporting a free download enterprise very soon - just one that has DRM and a file expiry. much like the recent expansion of tv programming on the internet currently.

Your touching on a very sensitive issue there on giving your music away for free but i think, with the option of buying a manufactured cd aswell, its going to be an essential option for musicians to find their audience.

I think if people download the tracks for free and then have a choice to buy the ep (prob at a gig) most will buy it to support the artist but if they decide to invest in the premium tshirt instead well then that still works for the band.

The whole thing music business is up in the air at the moment so if you could please expand on what way its going to pan out please do. il get my pen and paper :)
