Small Talk – Love + Hate

We know Boston’s Small Talk from the promo/title track from their debut album ‘Aquarium’ and what an epic it was. The evidence from the rest of this stellar indie pop effort is that that 6-minuter was out on its own and the album is for the most part chock full of sweet little cherubic numbers like ‘Love + Hate’. I kept on thinking of Glasgow troupe the Delgados because the boy/girl dynamics are so intrinsic to their sound. The other similarity is that Small Talk have plenty of mischievousness going on so sometimes the chirpiness is tempered by an experimental streak. Certainly one of our favourites new acts so far this year. KH
