Ah Candy Claws, a force so considerable it is said that much of Denver’s natural world shakes in unison at the arrival of each one of their new records. Of course the shivers of anticipation have spread way beyond the band’s home of Fort Collins following a collection of albums that have challenged modern audiac through the prism of a slew of ye olde genres (dreamgaze being the natural outcome). With new album ‘Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time Forever’ everything has got bigger and bolder while the slack dimensions found on its predecessor ‘Hidden Lands’ have for the most part been dispensed with. What we’re left with is a Candy Claws that we fell in love with in the first place but with grander ambitions and louder soundscapes. One of the new LP’s undoubted highlights is ‘Transitional Bird (Clever Girl)’ which approximates a MGMT style wind tunnel of sound that is emblazoned with bright melodies and Ryan Hover’s out of reach vocals. It’s big, clever and downright adorable. KD
