Carter Tanton has been around the block but mostly as a pillion passenger with such acts as (our beloved) Lower Dens, Tulsa and Marissa Nadler. He is a noted guitar player but last year he struck out on his with an album called ‘Freeclouds’. ‘Fake Pretend’ is a little snippet and is indicative of what he has to offer. Could be viewed as somewhat difficult but the merry dance led by Tanton with the aforementioned Nadler oozing dreamily makes for a quirky joy. It’s a fractured listen but one I can’t for the life of me stop returning to. KD
